I have been doing it every year since Artyom and I were married. In fact, I did it every year before there was even an "us". I credit it to my parents who, at the beginning of each year, sat us down at our weekly "Family Council" and asked us what we wanted to have as our goals for the year. There was one we could always count on one of the six of us blurting out- THE BEACH! The yearly campout and as that got harder on my mom, the trip to the Beach. A year just wasnt a year without it. Another being to read the Book of Mormon each morning was a goal on a number of year's lists as well. And we did it. (I had a really awesome Mom).
The others? I could not tell you a 1/4 of them. But the ones that stood out then, still stand out now.
Now there is an "us" and I have been putting together a "Martushev Family Goals (insert year here) since we were married. So here we are again at the forefront of another New Year and I am finally getting my goals, family goals and waiting on the Red Flame to get me his goals to slap on our fridge door. We find it not only keeps US more accountable, but it is so much fun to cross a goal off and write the date that we accomplished it. Then, at the end of the year, the list is taken down and put in "The Book" to be filed away and revisited at another time- further down the road.
So as I make my goals, some have been on there a few years in a row. Some are new and others? We make up as we go. But I love doing it and am hopeful and try to be patient as we do our best to accomplish them.
Happy 1st month of 2011. I hope if you did make some goals for yourself, your family, etc. That you accomplish all you set out to do~and more.
